On the occasion of Odense harbour developing from an industrial harbour to a combined culture, residence and trading harbour the municipality of Odense decided to arrange a festival with culture and leisure time activities during the day and harbour festival at night in association with the general office of "For sejl I 1000 år - Odense Havn". The festival takes place from the 25th of August to the 29th of August 2004.

During the 25th to 29th of August 2004 there will be a unique gathering of ships from a period of 1000 years in the harbour of Odense, Denmark. It is the first time ever in history that replica ships from such a long period of time are gathered.

  • It has never been seen before that maritime history is shown and told chronologically.


  • some of the world's finest original and replica ships; Viking ships, Medieval ships, 18th century ships & 19th century ships.


  • battles between rival Vikings - the death of "King Canute" (the Holy)


  • 18th century Danish hero "Tordenskiold" defeating the Swede - sea battles and on the ground fighting.


  • events especially designed for children


    • All this spiced with historically inspired restaurants serving food from the different ages and villages showing the every day life of Vikings, Medieval, 18th century and 19th century people.
